Oklahoma 5A/6A boys basketball postseason recap: Broken Arrow still undefeated; Owasso, Moore take 6A road regionals

Tulsa Memorial, Tulsa Hale, Midwest City Carl Albert, Del City among 5A regional winners

Regional rounds of the playoffs for both 6A and 5A boys basketball teams have ended.

Here is a recap of how teams across the state fared this weekend.

Class 6A East Regional

Broken Arrow keeps its undefeated season alive after defeating Muskogee, 60-37, in the opening round. The Tigers then faced Tulsa Union, defeating the Redhawks, 62-44.

In the Redhawks' previous matchup, they qualified for this week's area round by defeating Southmoore, 66-65. Union and Broken Arrow will move on to the area tournament.

Owasso will also move on to the area tournament after defeating Tulsa Booker T. Washington, 65-54, in the regional finals. In the Rams' previous matchup, they had a close battle by defeating Bartlesville, 72-67.

The Hornets' first playoff matchup was against Stillwater, where they won, 79-51, qualifying for area.

Moore had a huge performance at its regional in Bixby.

The Lions took on Sand Springs in the opening round and came away with a 61-48 win. The Lions then beat Bixby, 58-57, on a last-second shot to win the regional.

Bixby previously defeated Enid in an 80-63 win. The Spartans will move on to the area as a runner-up. Moore will enter the area as a regional champion and take on Putnam City West on Friday at 6 p.m. in Kellyville.

The Patriots claimed their regional title after they upset their rival, No. 2 ranked Putnam City North, 60-57. PC West's previous game was against Jenks, where the Patriots defeated the Trojans, 79-55.

PC North will still advance to the area tournament as runner-up in the regional. Before playing PC West, the Panthers defeated Ponca City, 105-65.

Class 6A West Regional

Defending 6A champion Edmond North held off Mustang, 66-63, to win its home regional. The No. 1 Huskies previously played the Bombers from Midwest City, and came away victorious, 61-42.

Mustang started its regional with Edmond Memorial. It took overtime for the Broncos, but they pulled off the win, 51-50.

A top 5 matchup happened in the Lawton regional title game, involving No. 5 Choctaw and No. 4 Lawton. The Yellowjackets got the upper hand as they defeated the Wolverines, 68-65.

Choctaw had another close match that was close to an upset, but the Jackets prevailed against Putnam City, 43-39. The Wolverines, in their playoff opener, defeated Yukon 54-45.

Choctaw (regional champions) and Lawton (runner-up) will advance to the area tournament.

In the Norman regional, No. 3 Norman took on rival foe Norman North for the championship. The Tigers were no match for the Timberwolves as Norman won, 56-47, and became regional champions.

The Timberwolves and Tigers will be advancing to the area tournament. Before those two teams met up in the regional championship game, Norman defeated US Grant, 85-33. Norman North also took care of business with a 45-35 win.

In the Westmoore regional, No. 2 Westmoore took on Edmond Deer Creek for the title. The Antlers got an upset win against the Jaguars, 61-54, to become regional champions.

Westmoore and Deer Creek will advance to areas. The Antlers took on Edmond Santa Fe previously and won, 59-47, while the Jaguars matched up with Capitol Hill and won, 75-23.

5A East Regional

Top-seeded Tulsa Memorial hosted regionals and advanced to the area as regional champions after defeating Grove, 63-37. The Chargers opened postseason play with an 85-30 win against Pryor.

Grove qualified for the area tournament by defeating Coweta, 49-37, in the Ridgerunners' playoff opener. 

The first Top 5 regional semifinals for 5A was in the Nathan Hale regional at Tulsa. No. 4 Hale won against No. 5 Bishop Kelley, 70-61.

Hale previously met up with East Central, where they won, 77-56. Bishop Kelley defeated Shawnee in the quarterfinals, 77-56.

Holland Hall defeated Tahlequah in their own regional, 47-43. Holland Hall blew out Tulsa Rogers, 81-45, to begin the postseason.

Tahlequah had to pull off a big upset to get to the regional finals, defeating No.6 Collinsville, 52-49. The Tigers and No. 3 Holland Hall will advance to the area tournament.

Tulsa Edison Prep hosted regionals and came out as regional champions. Edison Prep faced off against Glenpool for the title, winning 77-54. Sapulpa was the Eagles' first match in the tournament, and the Eagles defeated the Chieftains, 67-36.

Glenpool took on Claremore in a close matchup, winning 60-56, which qualified the Warriors to the area tournament despite the loss to Edison.

5A West Regional

Midwest City Carl Albert ran through its regional, beating Guthrie for the title, 72-49. The Titans opened the playoffs with an 84-30 win against Duncan. 

Guthrie qualified for the area tournament by posting a 71-46 win against Lawton MacArthur. 

Oklahoma City Southeast hosted a regional and won the title against Piedmont, 71-65. No. 4 Southeast previously routed Santa Fe South, 103-52, in the quarterfinals.

Piedmont faced Lawton Eisenhower in the first round, where they defeated the Eagles, 76-40, to qualify for areas.

El Reno hosted regionals and became champions. The No. 3 Indians defeated Mount St. Mary, 75-53. El Reno previously defeated Guymon, 62-37.

The Rockets advanced to area by winning their first playoff game, defeating Altus, 54-49.

Del City hosted regionals and put up a total of 166 points for both games the Eagles played. They won the title, 80-44, against Noble. Del City previously defeated McAlester, 86-39.

Noble won against Durant, 49-38, as the Bears qualified for the area round.
