Enrico Ganz had already experienced disappointment once Friday at the Jesuit Twilight Relays

The Lincoln senior and his twin brother, Antony, ran on the Cardinals’ 4x200-meter relay team that lost by seven-thousandths of a second to Tualatin in the afternoon session.

Neither was about to let that happen again in the twilight session when they teamed with Chase Kochis and Nathan Davidson for the final heat of the 4x100 relay.

Kochis was a late addition to the team, taking the place of Emmett Togni due to an injury, but Enrico Ganz said that change didn’t faze them.

“Everyone is always fighting for a spot, and every week it could change,” Ganz said. “If somebody does change, we’re all ready to make that team. That’s what really makes us competitive.”

And they showed that competitiveness with a seamless trip around the Cronin Field track, ensuring no photo finish was needed with a comfortable victory in 43.40 seconds.

“Even with our first leg being a substitute, it doesn’t matter whatever conditions, we’re always able to perform,” Ganz said. “We’ve always been confident, but it’s building that confidence and making sure we’re able to perform, even in weather like this.

“We were ready for whatever. We came here to perform. We made sure we were in top condition, with the mindset that we’re going to win. We weren’t joking around. We were all serious, focused, and I think that made a big difference.”

Oregon City won the girls 4x100 in a slight upset, handing state-leading Lake Oswego its first loss of the season. The Pioneers remained unbeaten themselves, finishing just two-hundredths off their season best in a time of 48.12.
