Oregon City girls will head to Hayward Field for 6A track and field championships fresh off team title at Jesuit Twilight Relays: ‘We pride ourselves in coming out every week and giving it our all’

It’s been 33 years since the Oregon City girls track program won an OSAA state championship.
If the Pioneers’ first team title at the Jesuit Twilight Relays is an indication, they could find themselves ending that drought in three weeks when the state’s best track and field athletes gather at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon’s campus.
“This is definitely something to build on for us,” Oregon City coach Kristin Mull said. “I have high hopes for state. We pride ourselves in coming out every week and giving it our all, and that’s what we will continue to do the rest of the season.”

The Pioneers scored points in eight events, including a 1-2 finish in the long jump from junior Sophia Beckmon (who set a state record with her winning jump of 19 feet, 11 inches) and senior Harley Daniel, to amass 61 points.
“It was a tough day, a long day, and the girls really finished up well despite the rain and just did a fantastic job,” Mull said. “We had numerous PRs on the track. Overall, the team did fantastic.”
Summit, with 50 points, held off the host Crusaders by one point for second place.
The boys title went to Eagle, a Boise suburb that racked up 59 points to beat out runner-up Lincoln and 2019 champion Tualatin.
