Oregon high school track and field bests: Top weekly, season marks for 2022

A look at the best marks posted in Oregon high school track and field for the week of April 24-30 as well as for the 2022 season

Not every top athlete was in Southwest Portland last weekend for the 20th annual Jesuit Twilight Relays. Some outstanding marks were posted at smaller meets throughout the state. 

Two girls moved into the all-time top 20 of their events despite not taking over the state lead.

McDaniel sophomore Maleigha Canaday-Elliott became the 10th girl in state history to jump more than 39 feet in the triple jump, going 39-1 at a three-team PIL meet at Roosevelt High School on Wednesday.

A day earlier, St. Mary’s (Medford) senior Mackenzie Walker added another three-quarters of an inch to her personal best in the pole vault, clearing 12-5 to move into a tie for 16th all-time.

On Friday, Hermiston senior Bailey Young moved into ninth on the all-time list in the shot put, winning the Kiwanis Twilight title on her home track by throwing 46-10.

On the boys side, the Roseburg 400-meter relay took over the state lead at Saturday’s Grants Pass Rotary Invitational, running 42.82 seconds to help the team finish a strong second behind South Medford at the 72nd edition.

Meanwhile, the top three boys long jump marks of the season came one after the other. Wilsonville’s Rocco Marshall went 22-6 at a three-team Northwest Oregon Conference home meet Tuesday. Three days later, Glencoe junior Austin Stampflee posted the best 6A jump, going 22-5 to win the Elden Kellar Invitational at Hare Field.
