‘A very good weekend’ indeed for Molalla’s Elizabeth Grandle, the top star of the 4A girls state meet

Grandle added a title Saturday in the 100-meter hurdles to the long jump crown she won Friday morning.

When track season started in March, Molalla senior Elizabeth Grandle just hoped to find a way to make it to Eugene's Hayward Field by May.

Not only did she make it to Hayward for the OSAA track and field championships, she was one of the stars of the Class 4A meet.

Grandle added a second individual title Saturday in the 100-meter hurdles, winning in a personal-best 15.68 seconds, to the long jump she won Friday morning.

Along with her runner-up finish in the high jump and third-place finish in the javelin, Grandle scored 34 points and was named athlete of the meet.

“As the season progressed and my marks improved, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, this is a possibility. I could do this,’” Grandle said. 

“It’s been busy, but it’s been a very good weekend.” 

Grandle doesn’t have a favorite among her four events, saying that “I feel like every event, the one I’m doing, I’m like, ‘Oh, this is my favorite.’ But then I go to the next one, I think the same thing, so it’s just hard to say.”
