Oregon high school track and field bests: Top weekly, season marks for 2023 (another state record broken)

A look at the best marks posted in Oregon high school track and field for the week of May 15-21 as well as for the 2023 season

The Lake Oswego relay teams had been stalking Benson’s long-standing state records all season.

Friday night, the Lakers finally took down one of those records. With sophomore Ana Peters moving into the second leg of the 1,600-meter team, joining classmate Marina Turpen and juniors Mia Brahe-Pedersen and Josie Donelson, they closed the Three Rivers district championships by breaking the Techsters’ 20-year-old record in the event, finishing in 3 minutes, 49.83 seconds. 

“I know all of us have been running a lot today, and it was a hot day,” Donelson said. “But every time I step onto the track, especially with a team as talented as we are, I know something special could happen.”

Now, as the quartet heads to Hayward Field in Eugene next weekend for the three-day OSAA state championships, how much faster can they go?
