SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings: Ellensburg forward Gavin Marrs ranked No. 22 in Washington

In an effort to shine a brighter spotlight on Washington high school basketball players, we are introducing our first-ever SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings.
Our rankings are compiled by SBLive Basketball Analyst Dan Dickau based on observations and conversations with an extensive network of coaching and media sources across the country. The players have been evaluated through a college recruiting lens and analyzed in four categories: athleticism, ball skills, basketball IQ and upside.
Over the next few weeks we will roll out our Top 25 players in Washington. Here's a closer look at No. 22 on the list, Ellensburg sophomore Gavin Marrs:

DICKAU'S ANALYSIS
ATHLETICISM: One of the first things that jumps out at you is Marrs' length. And then once you watch him play his athleticism is quickly apparent. He has the ability to run the floor well and should be good as a transition big. He isn’t a tremendous jumper but is quick off the floor, allowing him to be active on the glass and in contesting shots at the rim.
BALL SKILLS: Although not a 3-point shooter at this time, he has shown the mechanics and the touch from 15-feet to make you think he will be a good shooter in time with reps. This is important because it will allow him to be a dual threat in pick-and-roll situations — both pick-and-pop and rolling to the rim. He has good hands and the ability to finish with either hand around the rim, as well as over the top with his length.
BASKETBALL IQ: Young bigs and their IQ can be difficult to read at times because they can rely on their size, athleticism or combination of the two. Marrs has a good feel for when to block a shot, when to contest and when to stay home on the glass. Overall he seems to have a good feel for the game.
UPSIDE: He is beginning to hear from quite a few Division I programs after some strong showings with Friends of Hoop this summer and fall. Marrs will be a D-I player for sure, but if he grows to 6-foot-11 that could change the level or the success that he may have.
Marrs would make two D-I players from Ellensburg in the last three years, with Steele Venters (Eastern Washington) being the other.
