Owen Proksch, Blake Watters headline 2022 Texas (UIL) Baseball State All-Tournament Teams
ROUND ROCK, Texas — Southlake Carroll senior pitcher/center fielder Owen Proksch and Corpus Christi London sophomore third baseman/pitcher Blake Watters headlined a star-studded group of Texas high school baseball standouts selected to the 2022 UIL Baseball State All-Tournament teams.
Proksch and Watters were voted MVPs of the Class 6A and 3A state championship games, respectively, after spectacular performances that helped lead their schools to state titles on the diamond.
Proksch, a Duke signee, hit leadoff for the Dragons in both of their state tournament games, playing center field during the state semifinals and starting on the mound during the Class 6A state title game.
He tallied a 4-for-7 performance at the plate during state-championship weekend with a triple, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI that helped Southlake Carroll take its first lead against San Antonio Reagan in the state championship game.
Proksch also threw 5 2/3 innings during the state game for the Dragons, striking out nine and allowing three earned runs on four hits, three walks and three hit-by-pitches.
Watters was one of the lynchpins in Corpus Christi London's colossal 16-13 comeback win against Brock in the 3A state title game, which brought London its first baseball state championship in school history.
He finished the weekend 3-for-4 offensively with two doubles, two sacrifice flies, a walk, a sac bunt, three runs scored and five RBI.
Watters also pitched two innings during the 3A state title game, earning the W on the mound for the Pirates after throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, one walk and no hits allowed.
