Cy-Fair outlasts Jersey Village for 61-49 win in 6A Texas high school football shootout (Photos)

Junior QB Trey Owens powered the Bobcats to a huge win over previously undefeated Jersey Village to keep Cy-Fair locked in the District 17-6A title race

HOUSTON, Texas — Led by gunslinging junior quarterback Trey Owens and senior running back Zaccheas Baynes, the Cy-Fair Bobcats rallied in their high-stake, high-scoring District 17-6A matchup Friday.

Owens and Baynes accounted for four touchdowns each, sparking a third-quarter surge that propelled Cy-Fair to a 61-49 shootout win over Jersey Village in a pivotal 17-6A clash at Ken Pridgeon Stadium.

The Bobcats' victory against previously undefeated Jersey Village keeps them atop the district standings amid a tight race for the District 17-6A championship.

Cy-Fair carried a 35-28 lead into the locker room after a back-and-forth first half against the Falcons.

But the Bobcats broke the game wide open with number of big-play touchdowns during a huge third quarter.

Jamel Nickerson began the second half with a 55-yard touchdown run on Cy-Fair's first offensive possession of the third quarter.

The Bobcats' boosted their then double-digit lead again when Owens connected for a pair of third-quarter scores on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Baynes and an 85-yard bomb of a TD pass to Cooper Stevens that made it a 54-28 Cy-Fair lead late in the third quarter.

Jersey Village battled back with three second-half touchdowns following Cy-Fair's final score of the night, an early four-quarter touchdown run.

The Falcons were able to claw back and cut Cy-Fair's advantage to a two-possession lead.

The Bobcats, however, slammed the door shut on Jersey Village's comeback bid with an interception by defensive back Brandon Wallace at Cy-Fair's 2-yard line to seal the Bobcats' victory.

Cy-Fair (4-1, 2-0) will look to keep rolling in district play when the Bobcats take the field again versus Cypress Creek (2-2, 1-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium in Cypress.

Jersey Village (4-1, 1-1), meanwhile, will look to keep pace in the District 17-6A championship race when the Falcons return to action against Cypress Ridge (2-3, 2-0) at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Ken Pridgeon Stadium in Houston.
