Terry Bussey, nation's top athlete, makes unlikely high school season debut

Terry Bussey, one of the nation's top high school football players, made his 2023 debut in epic fashion.
The uncommitted Timpson (Texas) 5-star athlete, who missed the first two weeks of the season with an injury, subbed in at quarterback and scored the game-winning touchdown in the final two minutes on Friday night.
Timpson beat Daingerfield 33-26 in a thriller. Bussey, who is visiting Alabama Saturday, got the call when starting quarterback JJ Gardner left with an injury, and kept a read option for himself nine yards for touchdown.

It was his first action of the season for Bussey, the No. 15 overall prospect in the country and No. 2 in Texas, and the appearance came as a surprise. On Tuesday, Timpson coach Kerry Therwhanger told KTRE-9 Bussey's return this week was unlikely, but the severity of his injury was downplayed.
“I doubt" Bussey will play, Therwhanger told the news station. "I mean, it is a possibility. Honestly, if this was a playoff game, he’d probably be out there but we’re just trying to make sure that we’re 100% with the gap before he steps back out and this is non district. So you know, it doesn’t really matter. I mean, we want to win them all. But if we don’t happen to get this one, it’s not the end of the world.”
Bussey, the top uncommitted prospect in the Lone Star State, set his commitment for Sept. 28. He will choose between Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and Alabama.
He'll be at University of Alabama on Saturday as the 11-ranked Crimson Tide take on No. 3 Texas in what's anticipated as one of the best college football matchups of the season — and received the full College GameDay treatment.
His junior season was among the most productive in the country. He racked up 4,773 yards of offense — 2,596 rushing, 2,177 passing — and 72 touchdowns. On defense, he had 115 tackles, four pick-sixes and four special teams touchdowns.
Bussey has been predicted to choose Texas A&M by 247 Sports, On3 and Rivals.
