SPOKANE, Wash. — A stingy defensive effort hit another level in the second half of the 2022 Class 1B girls state basketball title.

Mount Vernon Christian put the clamps on Neah Bay in the fourth quarter, holding them just three points, to mount a comeback that finished with the Hurricanes hoisting the gold ball inside the Spokane Arena.

After holding Neah Bay to 31 percent shooting in the first half, Mount Vernon Christian allowed just four made Red Devil field goals in the second half (on 16.7 percent shooting).

Allie Heino had a team-high. 11 points for Mount Vernon Christian and Hann Van Hofwegen added nine boards. Oceanna Aguirre (10 points) and Allie Green (Allie Greene) led Neah Bay in scoring.
