Angels News: Insider Says Phil Nevin Firing ‘Just Another Reflection of the Moreno Ownership’

The Angels have a lot to answer for.

As another season was wasted by the Los Angeles Angels, you start to wonder if this team will ever put things together. They have had two of the best players in the big leagues on their roster for years, and still haven’t even been close to reaching the playoffs once.

Now they will be tasked with trying to find another manager to lead this club after letting Phil Nevin go, and this will mark their fifth manager since 2018.

It’s another sign of how poorly run the organization has been under owner Arte Moreno, and why fans were so happy when he teased them with the idea of him selling last year.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal laid into the Angels and made it clear that the dismissal of Nevin is another sign of dysfunction within the organization.

“It’s not surprising necessarily. It’s just another reflection of the Moreno ownership. Phil Nevin did a reasonable job for the Angels in the year plus he was the manager. Players liked him a lot, he connects with players, he’s not necessarily soft on players but he has a good way with them as a former player himself. The question I have for the Angels as always is what are you doing? What is your direction? What is your plan? Where are you going with this?”

Per Ken Rosenthal on Foul Territory

Rosenthal took the words out of most baseball fans' heads because the Angels have made some very questionable decisions of late. Moreno has long been criticized by members of the media for his choices, and the Angels haven’t had any success on the field to back them up.

The Halos have been in a state of mediocrity for years now, and they have no sign of coming out of it. They should enter into a rebuild to start from scratch, but Moreno has been against this for years.

No matter who the Angels hire, if Moreno continues to run the team in the same manner, nothing will ever change. They are stuck where they are until there is a major overhaul to how this team goes about their day-to-day business.
