Seconds after Victor Scott II stole his first career base on Thursday night, his St. Louis Cardinals teammate Paul Goldschmidt could be heard yelling for the Dodgers to give him the base.

According to John Denton of MLB.com, Scott’s representation team, Ballengee Group, contacted the Dodgers on Friday and requested the second-base bag from Thursday’s Opening Day game so that Scott could honor his first stolen base as a big leaguer.

“I think it should go to my parents because it will probably mean more to them,” said Scott, whose father, Victor Sr., and mother, Mary, were on hand at Dodger Stadium along with other family and friends. “It’ll be good for them to have it.”

The first swipe was certainly only the first one of many considering he stole 94 bases at Class A Peoria and Class AA Springfield last season.

The rookie wasn’t expecting to make his major league debut on Opening Day but an injury to Dylan Carlson during the last few days of camp opened the door for him. Carlson suffered a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder and was placed on the 15-day injured list to start the year.

On the weekend Scott got his first career hit, first-career extra-base hit and scored his first career run. According to MLB Pipeline, he made it from home to second in just over eight seconds.

He finished Sunday 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. He also ended the day without a strikeout for the first time this season.
