Dodgers: Freddie Freeman Shares His Approach to the WBC and Spring Training
Spring is slowly approaching, which means baseball is on its way! It’s one of the best times of the year, and I know many Dodger fans cannot wait to get the 2023 season underway.
Before we get the real games rolling, we still have Spring Training coming this month and the World Baseball Classic games that will commence in early March.
This is the first time since 2017 that the WBC will take place, and many Dodgers will be representing their country in the games. One Dodger representing Team Canada is All-Star first baseman, Freddie Freeman.
Freeman will participate in the WBC again, and he said he’s looking forward to the games and how he translates that into Spring Training.
"I did it in 17 so it's more of, I started hitting earlier this off season than I normally do, and I got off to a pretty good start in 17 so hopefully I can do that again this year. But I think it's fun. I think it's a great tournament. The spring training's six weeks long and then there's a little lull factor in the beginning cause a lot of us are ready to roll, you know, about three or four weeks in. So it creates an environment of just competition that I'm gonna go for nine innings and trying to win a ballgame as much as I can and spring training you're just trying to get your work in. So it's kinda a fun factor to put into spring training, but I'm looking forward to it."
The 32-year-old also expressed why he plays for Team Canada even though he grew up in Southern California.
"My mom's Canadian, most people don't know my dad's Canadian as well. So it's just a, it's a fun for me to be able to honor my mom and my dad and, you know, to, to represent a country that they grew up in. I think it's just a cool tournament, you know, I need to be able to beat my teammates. So I need, I need bragging rights."
It’d be nice for Freddie or anyone from the Dodgers to come back to their MLB club and have those bragging rights.
According to Fanduel.com, Team Canada has the 11th best odds to win it at +6000, while Team USA has the second best odds at +250, Team Mexico has the sixth-best odds at +2000, and Team Great Britain is last with +30000.
