Dodgers Free Agent Reliever Signs With AL Central Squad

Another Dodgers free agent is on the move.

Free agent relief pitcher Shelby Miller has agreed to a contract with the Detroit Tigers for the 2024 season. It's a one-year contract for the veteran after a solid 2023 season. MLB Insider Kiley McDaniel of ESPN was the first to break the news.

There had been some thought that Miller could return to the Dodgers this coming year after the success he had, but it wasn't meant to be. He now heads to Detroit, where he will likely become a heavily relied-upon member of their bullpen.

Miller was great for the Dodgers last season, posting an ERA of 1.71 in 36 appearances. He posted a WHIP of 0.90 over 42 innings of work, also striking out 42 batters.

The Dodgers worked their pitching magic on Miller this past season, helping him have a resurgent season. He is on the long list of names to have the Dodgers help them, and he can take what he learned moving forward.

Miller dealt with some injury issues this season that caused him to miss some time. He had some neck problems that forced him out in the middle of the year, but he was thankfully able to come back for the later stages of the season.

He worked with the Dodgers' pitching staff to implement a new pitch into his arsenal, and it worked to perfection. Miller added a different form of a splitter, and it helped him dominate opposing batters.

One of the more impressive parts of his 2023 season was his ability to keep the ball on the ground. He limited opportunities for opposing teams and was one of the better relievers that the Dodgers had.

Detroit will be getting a motivated veteran pitcher next season, and they have continued to add talent this offseason. We wish Shelby the best of luck with the Tigers going forward.
