In Sunday's final tune up before the regular season, Clayton Kershaw was spotted having a long conversation with home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez after some misunderstanding with the new pitch clock.

The Dodgers ace had two clock violations in his 6 innings, one he acknowledged was on him and the other he needed some clarification on. Kersh explained the encounter after LA's 3-0 victory.

“I stepped off, looked up, and there was seven seconds (left on the clock) but the clock turned off. The clock should’ve just kept going. And (Marquez) tried to make his best judgment, and thought I wasn’t going to make the pitch in time. … He said it was his judgment on that one.”

There are still learning curves for all with these new rules in place this season. And, given that it was the first time the clock had been in place in a big league ballpark and setting, you figured some issues were likely.

Altogether, it didn't make too much of a difference for Clayton who allowed just 3 hits to the Angels, striking out 7 and walking none.
