Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Has Full Confidence in Will Smith Turning Things Around in October

Here's to hoping his bat wakes up!

After a rough stretch for Dodgers catcher Will Smith, the hope is that he can pick things up soon. Smith started the year great but has been in a bit of a funk lately. It did come out that he was dealing with an injury for quite some time, and that did affect his overall performance.

But now he is getting healthy, and should hopefully, be in a good place for the upcoming playoffs. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts isn’t worried about his guy, and he has full confidence that he will show up in the postseason.

“I do. I see consistent work. I see a guy who’s finally healthy. I see a person who is not panicking, who doesn’t spike. And so, for me, I just have complete clarity that it’s gonna be a really good postseason for Will.”

Their offense is that much better when he is clicking, so the hope is that he can really turn things around over the next few weeks. He has put in the work to get healthy, and now it's his time to shine.

“The work has been consistent, the head consistent and he still controls the strike zone,” Roberts said. “He knows how to conduct at-bats situationally, and I just think that the hits will start coming and he’ll get locked in.”

For the year, Smith is hitting .258 with 18 home runs and 73 runs batted in. It’s been an up-and-down year for Smith, but one where he has persevered through it all.

LA will need him to produce well in the playoffs if they want any chance of winning another World Series. He was key for them back in 2020 when they won it all, and they will need him once again here.

Roberts trusts his guys, sometimes to a fault. But hopefully, the bat of Smith can wake up soon, and help the Dodgers bring home another ring.
