Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Sees Irony in Early Postseason Exits to Divisional Foes

It's happened again...

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts once again lost a postseason series after a 100-win regular season for the fourth year in a row in a full season during his tenure.

The Dodgers fell to Arizona in a sweep this time around, and LA's skipper acknowledged the irony of following up 2022's collapse to the Padres with this current embarrassment to the Diamondbacks when he was asked why the team struggles in the postseason against teams they dominated in the regular season.

"I don’t know the answer and it’s ironic that these are teams that we’re very familiar with, to your question. And so why, you get in a series and it gets flipped on its head, I just don’t know that answer. The easy answer is, like I said earlier, they just outplayed us. Their starters went deep. They got leads and we were playing from behind the whole series and their offense was better. Regardless of who you play, if you’re getting beat on those facets of the game, you’re just not going to win. I don’t know the answer to that. I really don’t."

Torey Luvollo's perceived underdog bunch shouldn't have been taken lightly after the Dodgers' collapse at Petco Park last year, yet for whatever reason, LA did just that.

The series loss may be even worse than last season's after the Dodgers at least managed to win a single game against the Padres in 2022.

Come 2023, Arizona took LA's soul across three brutal games and a broom with Roberts' and his roster's name on it.

Clayton Kershaw and Bobby Miller failed to get it done for LA's makeshift rotation and Lance Lynn all but finished the job on Wednesday night.

Four 3rd inning solo home runs were all that Arizona needed to get the victory after the poor offense managed just two runs for the third game in a row.

A long and cold offseason awaits the perceived class of the NL West after a second straight collapse to a divisional opponent this October.
