When Jason Heyward signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers this offseason, it wasn't considered a blockbuster deal by any stretch of the imagination. He'd struggled over the last few years with the Cubs and, by all accounts, looked cooked.

But the Dodgers did that thing they do... they made him a solid major league contributor once again.

In 79 plate appearances, Heyward is slashing .231/.338/.492 with 4 home runs, 5 doubles, and 8 RBIs. In comparison, last year with the Cubs, he had only one home run, 5 doubles, and 10 RBIs in 151 plate appearances.

Off the field, Heyward has been an invaluable veteran presence, helping out many teammates both young and old. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently told Bob Nightengale of USA Today, that Jason is on the "Mount Rushmore" of his favorite players he's ever been around.

"“He’s on the Mount Rushmore of favorite players I’ve ever been around ... He has a new lease on life, a new freshness. He’s been a big part of this. I’m honored to be sharing the same uniform with him.”

Considering the list of players Doc has either managed or played with back during his career, that is quite the compliment.

If Heyward can stay as consistent as he's been so far, he has the potential to be not only a remarkable comeback story but one of the biggest steals of the offseason as well.

Thanks for picking up the tab. We appreciate you, Chicago.
