For the fifth time in five seasons, your Los Angeles Dodgers will have a different starting pitcher on Opening Day. For the 2023 season, it will be none other than their lefty Mexican ace Julio Urias

After an incredible 2022 season, Urias will be the one to start things off in 2023, and he's deserved the opportunity.

No. 7 met with reporters and told OC Register's own Bill Plunkett what it means to him to start on Opening Day for the Boys in Blue.

“Obviously it’s another accomplishment in my career, I’m very happy and thankful to the team for the opportunity,” Urias said in Spanish of his Opening Day assignment.“With the talent in our rotation, it’s an important role. That they’ve chosen me, I was really thankful and happy.”

Julio had the best season of his career in 2022, going 17-7 with a 2.16 ERA, 166 strikeouts, and a 0.96 WHIP in 17 innings and 31 starts. Urias went on to finish third in the NL Cy Young voting; he put his name on the MLB map and will continue to show he is one of the best aces in the league.

Julio has been a part of the Dodgers organization for a very long time; he's proven himself repeatedly, and he deserves to be the number one guy for the Boys in Blue.

LA's skipper Dave Roberts said it best to Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya

“He’s earned this opportunity."

Enough said. We can't wait to see what else Julio has in store for us this season.
