Dodgers News: LA Might Be Exploring New Ways to Get Michael Busch to the Big Leagues

The former first-round pick is playing a new position.

Michael Busch is crushing it in Triple-A.

The 25-year-old infielder is batting .323, has an OPS of 1.054 and has hit 23 home runs this season. Since first playing in 2019, the Dodgers' former first-round pick has shown steady progression as he gets closer to being Major League-ready.

The Dodgers could be exploring a way to speed up that process.

For the first time this season, Busch is playing in the outfield. According to Alex Freedman, communications director for the Oklahoma City Dodgers, Busch will play in left field in Saturday night's game.

With Max Muncy, Enrique Hernandez, Freddie Freeman and Amed Rosario firmly in the infield, there could be more room in the outfield for Freedman on the Dodgers.

With a banged-up Dodger lineup, adding a healthy Busch could bolster the team as they work to build on their 7.5-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.

Busch has spent some time in the big leagues already, batting .200/.294/.267 with 4 RBI across 15 games in the 2023 season. He is an excellent hitter against right-handed pitchers, batting .336/.447/.694 against righties with 21 homers.

As the Dodgers look to make a deep playoff run with key pieces returning from injury adding Busch to the mix could only help strengthen an already-elite roster.

Busch played 11 games in left field in the 2022 season. While his arm strength is questionable at times, evaluators inside and outside of the organization have been impressed bu his improvements on the defensive side.
