Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has had a rough go of it to start the season. Some of it is self inflicted (he'd probably tell you he's swinging over a few too many curveballs and changeups down at the moment). And the rest is just bad, bad luck. He's hitting the heck out of the baseball (100.1 mph average exit velocity) but right at people.

And then there's this.

Late in the game, just after having made this leaping, web gem of a catch to rob Christian Walker of his second hit...

... Max had a hard hit grounder take a funny hop, deflect off his glove then deflect off of his... well... down there area.

The Dodgers had a nice enough lead going at the time for Dave Roberts to go ahead and give him the rest of the night off.

The game broadcast noted that it seemed like Muncy wasn't quite ready for the next batter but the pitch clock forced the issue.

A day off certainly wouldn't hurt Max who is hitting just .077 to start the season after a very nice spring. The hits will come for the two-time All-Star... just hopefully more often off the bat and less often off of his body.

Notably, he was hit by a Madison Bumgarner curveball in the first inning.

Keep the faith on Max Muncy, folks. He's going to ball out this year.
