Dodgers News: Star Hitters Share Strides Made Hitting Wise This Offseason

Dodgers reporter reveals a few of LA's hitters who have been training at Driveline.

Several Dodgers took time this offseason season to hone their skills while visiting the training center, Driveline. Along with Mookie Betts and Chris Taylor, both Gavin Lux and Max Muncy join the list of Dodgers who got in the lab this offseason at Driveline.

Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times revealed that six LA hitters have gone to the training facility. Not only Mookie Betts, but Max Muncy and Gavin Lux were among those players. Muncy, who apparently didn't realize Driveline was more than for just pitchers, had this to say about the entire experience.

“I was like, OK, I’ll give it a shot, why not?” Muncy recalled this week. “If it increases my bat speed, if it helps me catch up to fastballs with guys throwing harder than ever, if it helps me play longer into my career — there was no downside to it for me.”

As far as Lux, he has already made big improvements from his session and even achieved a 6 MPH gain in bat speed.

“I’m a vision guy,” Lux said. “So when you put up a 3D picture of my skeleton and what my body is actually doing, you can get a way better idea” of how to improve your swing.

In 2022, Lux averaged 79.6 MPH on his bat speed, so adding 6 MPH place him at 85.6, putting him in position to improve on a down year power wise. He only connected on 6 home runs in 2022.

There is time to see how Lux’s skill will pan out in the regular season, but adding speed can only benefit Lux and the team more. As the first spring training game approaches this week, fans will get a good look at how Lux and Muncy are perfecting their craft.
