Dodgers, Rays Agree on Trade for Tyler Glasnow Under One Condition

Dodgers add an ace to their staff.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed on a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for RHP Tyler Glasnow and OF Manuel Margot per Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Dodgers will send back RHP Ryan Pepiot and OF Jonny DeLuca. The trade, however, is contingent on the Dodgers extending Glasnow.

Rumors of this trade have swirled over the last few days. Jon Heyman of MLB Network has been on the channel multiple times hinting at this trade. Thursday, it seems the deal is finally done. Heyman even reported that the deal is going to happen.

For their efforts, the Dodgers added an ace pitcher in Tyler Glasnow and a solid platoon option in Manuel Margot.

Glasnow immediately becomes the team's No. 1 starter while Margot figures to platoon with Jason Heyward in the outfield. Additionally, it appears the front office wants to extend Glasnow for the near future.

In return, the Dodgers gave up Pepiot and DeLuca.

The team revealed what they thought about Pepiot with their actions during the 2023 postseason. They elected to start Lance Lynn in a win-or-go-home Game 3 over the young righty.

Jonny DeLuca has talent with the bat and great speed. He just was never in the long-term plans for the Dodgers. He would have needed to play left field or be the team's DH.

The team recently signed a player named Shohei Ohtani to DH, and Margot has more experience playing in the outfield.

Given Glasnow's injury history, and giving up Pepiot, the front office still needs to add more quality starters to the rotation. As Kobe Bryant famously said, "Job's not finished."
