Going into the Trade Deadline, the Dodgers are in unfamiliar territory. There are certain needs that need to be addressed, and the Dodgers have started addressing them by trading for Kiké Hernandez, and then trading for Amed Rosario the next day.

But one thing that needs to be taken care of is outfield depth. The Dodgers need right-handed bats, hence the moves to get Hernandez and Rosario, but could they add someone else to bolster their bench?

According to the Athletic, the Dodgers should try and make a move to acquire Tommy Pham from the Mets. But is this a good idea?

Well, he'd be an upgrade from Trayce Thompson for sure, who is on the comeback trail at Triple-A but has hit only .155 on the year.

The article also mentions that the Dodgers usually shop at the top of the market, and Pham isn't necessarily a top outfield talent.

He's reliable, yes. But top level talent? Not in 2023.

With the addition of Kiké in the lineup, who can play anywhere, having another option in the outfield might be a good option for the Dodgers.

And if the track record of signing veterans to a 1-year deal has worked out so far, why not change anything and use Pham as a rental?

We've seen it work with J.D. Martinez, Jason Heyward and David Peralta at times, but their success have come in flashes this season.

Pham isn't having his best season, but it would still be an upgrade from the options that the club has right now.

Expect the Dodgers to make more moves before the Deadline ends, mainly in starting pitching, and as we've seen in the past, the Dodgers aren't afraid to make a lot of seemingly minor moves, and use some players as rentals to build up for a deep postseason run.
