Dodgers Rumors: MLB Insider Provides Latest Update On Dylan Cease Trade Talks

Can the Dodgers bring the ace to Los Angeles?

It has been reported that the Dodgers and Chicago White Sox have been involved in trade talks to bring starting pitcher Dylan Cease to Los Angeles. LA has been aggressive in their pursuit of him, due to their need for pitching help this winter.

Last season with the White Sox, Cease posted an ERA of 4.58 and a WHIP of 1.42 over 33 starts. But he showed his full potential in 2022, posting an ERA of 2.20 and coming in second within the American League Cy Young voting.

His 2023 season was a down year, but many believe it was due to the state of the White Sox. LA does have some competition for any Cease trade, however.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today spoke with Doug McKain of dodgersnation.com about the latest on the Cease trade talks. Nightengale was the first to break the news about the Dodgers speaking with Chicago about Cease this winter.

“The Dodgers have been talking to them for a few weeks now but haven’t come close to bridging the gap as far as prospect capital.”

The Dodgers likely haven't fully engaged the White Sox in talks yet since they are waiting to see what happens with some of the high-priced free agents. LA is involved with a few of them, and if they were to miss out, Cease would become the main target.

However, there has been some thought that the Dodgers could land multiple of the top-tier free agents and also make a trade for Cease. After two straight poor postseason appearances, the LA front office is big game hunting this winter.

Cease would be a great addition to the Dodgers starting rotation, but many also believe that he can't be the only pitcher addition. Cease makes for a great number two, so LA may need to land a top-tier starter as well on the free-agent market.
