Dodgers Sign Former Red Sox, Twins Pitcher to Minor League Deal
The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed 29-year-old left-handed pitcher Stephen Gonsalves to a minor league deal. A 10-year veteran, Gonsalves has bounced around organizations and minor league levels.
Gonsalves last appeared at the major league level back in 2021 with the Boston Red Sox. Over his career, he has appeared in 10 major league games with a 6.21 ERA and 1.82 FIP.
Most recently, he was in the Chicago Cubs' system at multiple levels, but he did make 10 appearances with their Triple-A team. Last year in Triple-A, Gonsalves had a 6.19 ERA over 16.0 innings.
Though his repertoire has changed a bit over the years, he still mainly throws a 93 mph fastball, curveball, and slider.
The Dodgers have a clear need for left-handed relievers in their organization. After the team traded away Victor Gonzalez earlier this offseason, that only exasperated the need. Only Caleb Ferguson, Alex Vesia, and Ryan Yarbrough remain as left-handed options out of the bullpen — and Yarbrough could be an option for the starting rotation at this point in the offseason.
