Dodgers Will Be Competing With Biggest NL West Rival for Top Free Agents This Offseason

The rivalry takes center stage even in the offseason.

The Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have been arch-rivals for a long time, and the two teams generally don't like each other. There is a level of respect for one another, but on the field, it's game on.

And now, it seems that the rivalry will be taking center stage in the offseason, as they duke it out for some of the better free agents available on the open market.

MLB insider Jon Morosi is reporting that the Giants are making it their purpose to try and land either two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani or Japanese pitching sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The Dodgers have been heavily linked to both free agents, and we may have ourselves a good old-fashioned battle. Of course, there are other teams in the mix for both players, but these two have no interest in seeing either play go to the other franchise.

The Dodgers may be the only team across the league that believes they can land both free agents, but the Giants are determined to stop that from happening. It would be tough to see either player head up north to play for the Giants, so hopefully, that doesn't happen.

The Dodgers have long been the favorites to land Ohtani, and it also feels like Yamamoto could wind up in LA, as well. It would be quite the haul this offseason if the team could sign both, but that remains unknown if it's possible.

We should be in for a very interesting next few days, as the winter meetings get going. Both players are expected to sign either at or right around the meetings, so we should know more about their final destinations very soon.
