Former Dodgers Outfielder Joins NL East Squad on One-Year Deal

He's getting a chance in the nation's capital.

Former Dodgers outfielder Joey Gallo has signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Washington Nationals. Andrew Golden of the Washington Post was first to report on the news of the agreed upon deal. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was first on the money of the deal.

Gallo, 30, spent the second half of the 2022 season with the Dodgers after he was traded from the New York Yankees for right-handed pitcher Clayton Beeter. Gallo struggled with L.A., hitting .162 with seven home runs and an OPS of .671 in 44 games.

In 2023, Gallo was with the Minnesota Twins, and was able to have a slightly better season, hitting .177 with 21 home runs, 40 RBIs and an OPS of .741.

Gallo has not been able to regain his 2021 All-Star form since bouncing around the Yankees, Dodgers and Twins. Gallo was an All-Star in both 2019 and 2021 with Texas, and he won Gold Gloves in 2020 and 2021.

In his career, Gallo is slashing .197/.323/.466 with 198 home runs and 426 runs batted in with an OPS of .789.
