Recently Traded Dodgers Outfielder Suffers Unfortunate Injury

The former Dodger prospect suffered a severe hand injury in his latest spring outing.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers prospect and Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca suffered a broken hand when he was hit by a pitch on Sunday.

DeLuca was taken to the local hospital, and it was revealed he would recover within four to six weeks. Tampa Bay Times insider Marc Topkin reported via X.

In mid-December, the Dodgers traded DeLuca and pitcher Ryan Pepiot to the Rays in exchange for ace Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot.

The Dodgers drafted the right-hand hitter in the 25th round in the 2019 MLB Draft.

The 25-year-old appeared in 24 games in the majors last year. In his first time as a big leaguer, DeLuca hit a .262 average with two home runs and six RBIs before being optioned back to the minors in late July.

The Thousand Oaks native will now miss the start of the regular season for his new team. We wish him the best in his recovery and hope he doesn't miss a beat when he returns to the diamond.
