We're coming up on the three month mark since Gavin Lux underwent season ending surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. The Dodgers infielder was primed to take over as the shortstop in 2023 and instead is, unfortunately, watching from the sidelines.

At least he finally watching from the dugout and not the clubhouse.

For the first month of the season, he's been forced out of the dugout during games thanks to an MLB policy that says players on crutches can't be out of the clubhouse during games. For this current homestand, he's off the crutches and told one reporter from The Athletic that he'll be able to start running as soon as July.

This news has Dodgers fans and MLB fans excited for Luxy's eventual return to the show for LA. That return, of course, wouldn't be until next year.

Of course, the question had to be asked... could he return this year? The Dodgers are at times painfully conservative when it comes to players coming back from injury -- smartly, of course -- so it seems very unlikely that the medical staff would ok anything before 2024. However, one fan reminded us about Kyle Schwarber and the 2016 Chicago Cubs team that won the World Series that year...

Schwarber tore his ACL on a play in the outfield on April 7th that year. He returned as the DH for game 1 of the World Series and played a massive role in the Cubbies breaking the curse of the billy goat.

Assumedly, the Dodgers would be in a good enough position with the roster if they made the World Series, but it is worth noting that Lux's injury and surgery happened a full two months earlier than Schwarber's at the time.
