Brayan Rocchio To Get First Major League Start With The Guardians
Terry Francona and the Cleveland Guardians are being forced to get creative with the lineup for a multitude of reasons.
Jose Ramirez went on the bereavement list on Tuesday before the series opener which means he'll be out for at least the rest of the series. Then Josh Naylor left the game with what was listed as "left leg tightness."
So far, Naylor's been able to avoid the injured list.
These two players being out gives some of Cleveveland's younger and more inexperienced players an opportunity. One of those is Brayan Rocchio who will get the start of shortstop on Wednesday.
Amed Rosario, the team's everyday shortstop, will be the designated hitter.
Rocchio was called up on Tuesday with Ramirez's absence, got into the game, and got his first Big League hit. Rocchio was originally called up in April, but he didn't get in a game.
The 22-year-old shortstop has been a show-stopper in Triple-A this season. In 36 games Rocchio is slashing .338/.396/.486, showing that he's clearly ready for The Show.
It's not likely that this stint with Guardians will be a long one, but he has a great opportunity to show the organization why he needs to be playing at the highest level.
