The Miami Marlins have finally won a game.

Knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals in dominating fashion on Sunday afternoon put Miami into the win column, finally, for the 2024 season. Now it’s about getting back into contention, starting in New York as the Marlins take on the AL East-leading Yankees in a three-game set starting tonight.

Miami's going to do it, at least initially, without centerfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., who isn't in the lineup to start the game. Offseason trade acquisition Vidal Bruján will man centerfield and bat eighth.

Lineups for the Miami Marlins and New York Yankees on Monday, April 8th

Here's how the Marlins will line up for the contest:

2B Luis Arraez
LF Bryan De La Cruz
DH Josh Bell
1B Jake Burger
SS Tim Anderson
RF Avisaíl García
3B Emmanuel Rivera
CF Vidal Bruján
C Christian Bethancourt

Starting for the Marlins is Opening Day’s starter, Jesús Luzardo. In his first two outings, Luzardo put up 10.1 innings with five runs allowed on six hits, walking four and striking out thirteen. There’s not a long track record between Luzardo and New York, but there are some interesting small sample sizes to watch out: slugger Aaron Judge is 1-1 with a solo homer off of Luzardo, while young shortstop Anthony Volpe is 1-2 with a homer and three RBIs. Utilityman Jon Berti, who was traded from Miami to New York on the eve of Opening Day, has never faced Luzardo but undoubtedly knows him well.

Here's how the Yankees will line up for the series opener:

2B Gleyber Torres
RF Juan Soto
CF Aaron Judge
DH Giancarlo Stanton
1B Anthony Rizzo
SS Anthony Volpe
LF Alex Verdugo
C Jose Trevino
3B Jon Berti

Starting for the Yankees is Nestor Cortes. 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA in his first two starts, it’s the first time Miami’s seen the lefty since his breakout 2022 season, but that doesn’t mean they’re going in blind: 2B Luis Arraez is 2-4 against Cortes, while SS Tim Anderson is 5-11. No member of the Marlins roster has either a homer or RBI off of Cortes in a combined 34 career at-bats, however.
