Philadelphia Phillies Fall In Opener Of Key Series Against Mariners

The Philadelphia Phillies faltered in the opener of one of their key series to wrap up the month of April.

The Philadelphia Phillies’ schedule is significantly tougher for the next couple of weeks.

While the Phillies won three straight and took three of four from the Colorado Rockies, they soon realized the task was more daunting against the Seattle Mariners.

Philadelphia fell 5-3 on Tuesday though Edmundo Sosa popped a solo home run.

Other than that, the Phillies (11-13) struggled to generate much offense.

The top of the lineup wasn’t able to set the tone. Bryson Stott, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber combined to hit 1-for-11. Turner was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Cristian Pache and Nick Castellanos did manage to contribute two hits each.

Left-hander Bailey Falter dropped to 0-4 after allowing six hits and four runs, three earned, in six innings. Falter struck out seven, walked none and probably deserved a better fate after an above-average outing.

The Phillies had one final chance after pinch hitter Jake Cave produced an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning. But Stott struck out swinging to end the game.

Philadelphia will have a chance to equalize Wednesday when it sends Taijuan Walker to the mound to oppose Seattle’s Logan Gilbert.
