Philadelphia Phillies Manage Just Four Hits But Stellar Pitching Carries Them Past Mariners

The Philadelphia Phillies took the series against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday after a stellar pitching performance.

Kody Clemens hit an RBI single in the second inning which scored Nick Castellanos all the way from first base.

That was the game’s only run and enough to catapult the Philadelphia Phillies past the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Thursday.

The Phillies won two of three in the series and evened their record at 13-13.

Philadelphia’s pitching took care of the rest.

Matt Strahm threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed two hits and struck out five while throwing only 60 pitches.

Seranthony Dominguez, Connor Brogdon, Gregory Soto and Craig Kimbrel combined to toss 3 2/3 shutout innings to preserve the victory. Kimbrel retired the Mariners in order in the ninth and earned his third save in three chances. It was Kimbrel’s 397th career save.

Castellanos produced a single and extended his hitting streak to eight in a row.

Brandon Marsh went 0-for-3 and had his 21-game on-base streak snapped.

After a day off, the Phillies will head to Houston to begin a three-game series against the defending World Series champion Astros.

The Astros defeated the Phillies in six games in last year’s World Series.
