Philadelphia Phillies Don’t Appear To Be In Rush To Add Starting Pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies are playing it slow when it comes to adding a starting pitcher following injuries to the rotation.

Despite seeing their starting pitching depth diminished in spring training, the Philadelphia Phillies don’t appear to be in a rush to make any changes.

Bailey Falter and Matt Strahm will step in to start while Ranger Suarez and Andrew Painter are out.

Suarez will miss about two weeks and Painter could be out for more than a month or longer with a sprained UCL.

It’s not ideal to start the season.

“Our starting pitching has taken a hit,” Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said. “We’re razor-thin, really, because of the injuries that we’ve had.

Suarez especially will be crucial to any success the Phillies will have this season. But the team will take its time with Suarez’s recovery.

“He’ll miss the first two weeks for sure,” Dombrowski said.

Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Taijuan Walker all look prepared for the beginning of the season.

It’s a marathon and the Phillies are fully aware how vital it will be to have these five starters at their peak in September, October and November.

No need to rush anything.

Especially with Painter, who’s still 19. If the Phillies are able to utilize him late in the regular season and into the playoffs, it will be a big bonus.
