Dominguez Thrilled To Stay With Phillies After New Deal

Seranthony Dominguez would like the Philadelphia Phillies to be his permanent home.

Seranthony Dominguez didn’t want to be anywhere else.

He’s perfectly happy with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Dominguez and the Phillies worked out a new deal Thursday that could keep him with the organization through 2025.

The two-year deal is worth $2.5 million in ’23 and $4.25 million in ’24. The Phillies can exercise an $8 million club option or take an $800,000 buyout for ’25, according to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki.

“It’s a really special day for me and my family,” Domínguez told reporters at BayCare Ballpark. “I just want to be here for the Phillies, and I would like to be here forever, because it’s the only family that I know. The Phillies' clubhouse is a nice place to be right now.”

No player has worked harder to return from injuries than Dominguez.

He suffered a torn ligament in his right elbow in ‘19, which required Tommy John surgery in '20. Then Dominguez threw just one inning for the Phillies from June of ‘19 through the end of '21. He missed a month late last season because of tendinitis in his right triceps.

The 28-year-old Domínguez produced a 3.00 ERA with nine saves in a career-high 54 appearances last season. He struck out 61 and walked 22 in 51 innings. He posted a 1.69 ERA in nine postseason appearances, striking out 18 and walking one in 10 2/3 innings.

Dominguez is likely to share the closer role with Jose Alvarado, Craig Kimbrel and Gregory Soto.
