Yankees Star Gleyber Torres Takes Hard Stance On Future With Club

The two-time All-Star certainly made his opinion clear

Will Gleyber Torres remain with the New York Yankees for the foreseeable future?

This is a question that will be swirling around the club all season. Torres has been a star since making his big league debut with New York in 2018. The two-time All-Star is one of the best second baseman in baseball but he will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Torres has found his name in trade rumors but at this point, it seems like he will remain with the club at least until the end of the 2024 campaign. Some have speculated that he will end up elsewhere in free agency, but Torres certainly sounds like he wants to stay in New York, according to ESPN's Enrique Rojas.

“I think a lot of people on the outside don't know what it’s like playing here (for Yankees)," Torres said to Rojas. "I've been here since the minors and playing here has been incredible. Anyone with a good family doesn't want to leave his home, it's literally like that."

New York's offense was a massive issue in 2023, but Torres was a bright spot. The 27-year-old clubbed 25 home runs, drove in 68 runs, and slashed .273/.347/.453 in 158 games.

He certainly will end up helping New York in 2024 but his price tag may end up being too high for the club in free agency, especially if it wants to hang on to outfielder Juan Soto.

Torres has become a fan-favorite in New York, hopefully, the two sides can work something out.
