2024 NBA Draft Reportedly Preparing to Move to Two Days

Per a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 2024 NBA Draft is preparing to move to two days: June 26 and 27.

The first day will feature the draft’s first round selections, followed by the second round picks on Thursday. The idea is likely to help slow down the hectic second-round pace, where teams have progressively less time to make selections deeper in the draft.
Wojnarowski reported that the NBA is still working on the final sign-off for the Players Association. This has been in the works for some time, with initial rumblings of the move coming months ago.
If made official, 2024 would mark the first multi-day draft in the history of the NBA.
In ESPN’s Jeremy Woo’s NBA Draft survey put out on Wednesday, he polled 20 NBA executives with various questions, one being how they felt about moving the event to multiple days.
Oddly enough, as many as 14 executives voted no on it being a two-day event, with just six yeses.
Woo wrote: “Voters largely preferred the one-day draft format, expressing some resistance to change, the value of simply getting the draft over within a night, and even some appreciation for the frenetic pace, which moves much faster than the NFL draft, for comparison. Some felt the shorter draft creates a competitive advantage for well-prepared teams, and that more time levels the playing field, but in a way that isn't fully necessary.”
There's been no indication on whether the two-day change will continue past this year, with the league likely treating 2024 as a trial run.
