Tankathon Reverse Standings: Pistons Take Lead in Final Stretch

There’s just a few games left to make their mark, be it grappling for a Play-In spot or better draft picks.

The 2023-24 NBA regular season is officially drawing to a close, with teams having around five games left to prove their worth.

While some are jockeying for better Play-In or Playoff positioning, others are trying to get the best picks possible in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.

Here are the official Tankathon Reverse Standings as of Sunday, April 7:

1. Detroit Pistons, 13-65

At 1-9 in their last 10 games, the Detroit Pistons have again taken the league’s worst record with just a few contests remaining.

Within the last few weeks, they strung together wins and managed to pass Washington, but have again fallen back to their losing ways, earning just 13 wins on the season.

While getting the top odds at this point is indeed the better move, it’s still demoralizing for a Detroit team that seems to be improving, even if minutely.

2. Washington Wizards, 15-63

On the flip side, Washington has won four games in their last 10, boasting a win over the Bucks and a three-game streak a few weeks ago versus the Kings, Raptors and Bulls.

They’re safely out of range from San Antonio and Charlotte at this point. But would need to handedly lose games versus the Raptors and Bulls and have Detroit string together some wins to get to the No. 1 odds at this point.

Right now, they’re likely locked in with the second-best odds.

T3. San Antonio Spurs, 19-58

Due to mammoth efforts from soon-to-be Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs boast a .500 record in their last 10 games.

While they’re certainly take this season’s internal development, they’re in danger of losing out on the top odds at No. 1 (14%) to Charlotte.

Either way, San Antonio will look to surround Wemby with as much talent as possible in 2024.

T3. Charlotte Hornets, 19-58

The Hornets are making a break for the third-worst record, winning just two games in their last 10 to tie with San Antonio.

They have five games left, with tough contests versus the Thunder, Mavericks, Celtics and Cavs making up a majority of that.

If Wembanyama can continue to will San Antonio to wins, Charlotte could be looking at another top pick.

5. Portland Trail Blazers, 21-56

6. Toronto Raptors, 24-53

7. Memphis Grizzlies, 27-51

8. Utah Jazz, 29-48

9. Brooklyn Nets, 31-47

10. Atlanta Hawks, 36-42

11. Chicago Bulls, 37-40

12. Houston Rockets, 38-39

13. Golden State Warriors, 42-35

14. Sacramento Kings, 44-33
