The 2026 World Cup is already like no other we’ve ever seen.

Elite managers are leading the way on the touchline—think Pochettino, Ancelotti, Deschamps, Tuchel and De la Fuente—and the race for the Golden Boot might have the most stellar cast in contention.

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé both lead the way with eight, with Erling Haaland one behind. Harry Kane has six and Ousmane Dembélé, Jude Bellingham and Mikel Oyarzabal have netted four times. Has the elite ever come to the fore in this way before?

As we arrive at the later stages of the competition, the big names have started to fall. Germany and Brazil both fell well short of expectations, while the hosting trio of the United States, Canada and Mexico all saw their dream summers come to abrupt ends in the round of 16.

France booked its place in the quarterfinals on Thursday and will face the winner of today’s game between Spain and Belgium. La Roja has been one of the top performers so far this summer, but Belgium will be full of confidence after dismantling the USMNT last time out.

Strap in, it’s going to be another thriller of a day at the World Cup.

  • Location: Inglewood, United States
  • Stadium: SoFi Stadium
  • Date: Friday, July 10
  • Kick-off Time: 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. BST
  • Referee: Michael Oliver (ENG)

France set the tone with a 2–0 win over Morocco on Thursday, earning a date with either Spain or Belgium in the next round.

Spain will be the favorite here, having perhaps outperformed every other team this summer aside from its potential semifinal opponents, and will expect to live up to that reputation after batting through Croatia and Portugal in its knockout run so far.

This is undoubtedly the toughest game of the tournament so far for Belgium, but Rudi Garcia’s side will be full of confidence. A comeback for the ages against Senegal was followed by a comprehensive victory over the USMNT earlier this week—can the Red Devils pick up another impressive scalp?
