Alto High School (Texas) football player Cam’ron Matthews died Saturday after collapsing on the sideline during a game, the school has confirmed

Matthews, a junior, complained of dizziness after a first-half play and went to the sideline where he suffered an aneurysm, according to NBC News. Matthews was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas where he was pronounced dead.

A family friend told NBC News she does not believe football to be the reason for Matthews’s death. No official cause of death has been determined, according to the AP.

The Alto Independent School District released this statement late Saturday:

“Cam’ron Matthews, passed away Saturday, October 17th. He was a junior and a member of the Yellow Jacket Varsity Football team. Please keep the Matthews family, our school and community in your prayers. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed.”

Matthews is the sixth high school football player to die since early September. A GoFundMe page has been set up for Matthews’s family.
