TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— After losing a tough one in the series opener, Alabama baseball bounced back in a major way to blow out Mississippi State 11-1.

Dom Tamez had a great day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Drew Williamson and Ed Johnson were the other players that finished the game with multiple hits.

"Really proud of our club, head coach Brad Bohannon said after the game. "Our kids are made of the right stuff. We need to play better and more consistently, but I thought today was a great example of the mentality our kids play with."

After a quiet first inning for both teams, the Alabama bats exploded in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Williamson hit a single to center field, scoring Bryce Eblin and Tommy Seidl.

Johnson, who was the very next batter, smashed a three-run home run over the left field fence, making the score 5-0 after two innings.

Mississippi State was able to get a run across in the top of the 5th inning after Amani Larry grounded out and Logan Forsythe came across the plate.

But Alabama responded with six runs across the final three innings, including an RBI single from Will Portera to score the 11th and final run.

Tamez arguably had the best day, however, hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the 5th, followed by another two-run homer in the bottom of of the 6th.

"We had really good reports on the pitchers and it helped me with what they were gonna throw," Tamez said.

Luke Holman, who went 5 2/3 with one run and four strikeouts, walked away with his fifth win of the season; he improved to 5-1. Mississippi State's Jurrangelo Cijntje was the losing pitcher and he fell to 3-2.

The rubber match is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. Grayson Hitt is the projected starter for Alabama, and Mississippi State will rely on Landon Gartman. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
