• Making the rounds on social media was this tweet from the girlfriend of Crimson Tide player Marcus Banks. After his father passed away, she bought him a stuffed elephant wearing Alabama gear. It had a recording of one of the last voicemails his father sent him.

• Athlon did its annual story quoting anonymous SEC coaches about other league teams, and it sounds like the rest of the conference is bracing for a big bounce-back from the Crimson Tide. Among the quotes were, "What can you say about Tua Tagovailoa? He plays hard, he plays hurt, he's great with pressure and competes his ass off. He's the ideal Saban quarterback." ... and ... "This is another national championship team, and they have the benefit of building off of last year's loss. They'll come out angry and focused."
• Incoming Crimson Tide golfer Michaela Morard closed with four consecutive birdies to post one of two 67s during the first round of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Old Waverly in West Point, Miss. Morard, who was just named to the 2019 USA Junior Solheim Cup Team, was tied with Andrea Lee, the No. 2 player in the Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings.
• Former Alabama wide receiver and return specialist Christion Jones was traded by the Saskatchewan Roughriders to the Edmonton Eskimos for veteran receiver Kenny Stafford. He's currently the only active Crimson Tide player in the CFL.
"We have a lot of depth at international wide receiver... it was a unique scenario where both organizations had needs that could help the other team out. "

• Cleveland Browns coach Freddie Kitchens is doing his best to shut down leaks out of the organization. "The days of inside information and the days of unnamed sources and stuff like that have ended," Kitchens said during his press conference.. "So you’re not going to get information like that, ever. Anybody. And if I ever see it, they’re fired. Immediately. That’s the way we’re running this organization. I can take it. John Dorsey can take it. We won't crack.”
• Women's basketball opened its 2019 Canadian Foreign Tour with a 104-64 victory over VK Select at the Sentinel Secondary Gymnasium in Vancouver, Canada. The Crimson Tide was led by Jordan Lewis and Jasmine Walker, who both scored 17 points.

On this date in Crimson Tide history:
August 6, 1968: Former Alabama running back Siran Stacy was born in Geneva, Ala.
Crimson Tide quote of the day:
“I was down in Geneva, Alabama, at a place called ‘The Bottom.’ I saw it on black and white TV one Saturday morning. You had to twist the antenna just to get a signal. I saw a man standing under the goal post and a whole bunch of guys running on the field wearing red jerseys. That ignited a dream inside me. I said from that moment on, ‘I’m going to play for that man.” – Siran Stacy
