Former Crimson Tide players poised to set new standard after NFL cutdown day

Alabama's best statistic Saturday wasn't at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where the 2019 Crimson Tide opened the regular season with a 42-3 victory against Duke, but in the National Football League.
Not only were Alabama players surviving cutdown day, but they were doing so with aplomb.
When the dust settled and every NFL team announced who had been released to get down to 53 players, after having up to 90 through the preseason, the Crimson Tide had 60 former players on various rosters.
Three, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Gehrig Dieter, Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster and Cincinnati Bengals tackle Jonah Williams, were placed on injured reserve, and Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Jarran Reed suspended, but it still left 56 players poised to make the Week 1 rosters.
Last season, Alabama had the most active players on kickoff weekend — which is the only time the NFL takes a snapshot of all rosters because they’re otherwise always fluid — with 44. LSU was second with 40 and Florida third with 37.
The previous year, 2017, Alabama and LSU were tied for the most with 39.
The Crimson Tide had 68 former players on various rosters after the 2019 NFL Draft and subsequent free-agent signings.
Alabama will also likely see some former players named to practice squads this week. Here's where everyone stood as of midnight Sunday morning.
