The Alabama Soccer team recorded its first conference win of the year with a 2-1 victory over Tennessee in double overtime Sunday at the Regal Soccer Stadium.

The Crimson Tide opened the first half strong offensively, outshooting the Volunteers 7-5, with four on goal.

Two one-on-one chances for Riley Mattingly should have given the Crimson Tide an early lead, but Lindsay Romig came up with two big saves for Tennessee to keep the game level.

Freshman Serena Pham gave Alabama the lead in the 70th minute after scoring from the penalty spot, but the lead didn't last. Tennessee found an equalizer less than three minutes later through Alicia Donley.

It stayed that until the 104th minute, when freshman Carlee Giammona headed a ball across the box, finding senior Nealy Martin. Her header gave Alabama the win.

“I am so incredibly proud of the team today,” Crimson Tide coach Wes Hart said. “It was a fun game to be a part of.

"Our quality of depth was key for us. We were able to bring fresh bodies off the bench and eventually wore a very good Tennessee team down. It was a great response after a tough loss to South Carolina and a perfect way to head the week as we look ahead to Mississippi State.”

Alabama outshot the Vols 29-11 on the day, placing 12 of those attempts on target.

Alabama also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. The Crimson Tide leads the SEC in corner kicks earned, 96 in 11 games played.

Alabama will look to ride the momentum into a home matchup against Mississippi State on Friday.
