The Alabama soccer team grinded out a 2-1 victory in a physical conference match against Missouri in its final regular season road game of the season.

The Crimson Tide got exactly the start it was looking for when freshman midfielder Carlee Giammona scored her second goal of the season just over a minute into the match. The assist was from junior forward Chloe Maize.

The Tigers found their equalizer just six minutes later with Julissa Cisneros converted from the penalty spot.

The first half was rugged with 15 total fouls called.

The game winner came for the Crimson Tide in the 63rd minute with sophomore forward Riley Mattingly driving home her attempt from the penalty spot.

"What a great result,” Crimson Tide coach Wes Hart said in a release. “It was not the most attractive game we've played, but [give] credit to Mizzou for making it difficult on us. This is a huge win for us in our quest for a first round bye in Orange Beach and a bid to the NCAA Tournament."

The win saw Alabama (9-4-3 overall, 4-2-2 SEC) extend its unbeaten streak to six games. It's only the sixth time the Crimson Tide has done that in program history, the most recent in 2002.

Alabama outshot Missouri 11-10, but only placed three of those shots on target.

Mattingly’s shot was her fifth of the season and she now leads the team in scoring with five goals.

Freshman goalkeeper AJ Crooks collected five saves, with two coming within 30 seconds of one another in the second half to keep the game level. She extended her school record of wins by a freshman goalkeeper to five, with four coming in conference play.

This was the third win against Missouri (7-8-1, 1-6-1 SEC) in program history with the last coming in 2017 in an overtime thriller in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide returns home on Oct. 27 to host Auburn at 1 p.m.
