Alabama Women's Basketball Travels Abroad For Chemistry and Camaraderie

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama women's basketball team is set to head to Spain on Saturday for a preseason tour that the program hopes will accelerate the growing process and translate into a step forward for the Crimson Tide. The team will play three games in three different Spanish cities over the course of 10-days abroad.
"It's really given us an opportunity to put our system in early but yet not go away from what the summer's about with position and individual development," said head coach Kristy Curry. "We're excited, I think we've had a phenomenal June and July and now we'll get an opportunity to go spend more time together. It becomes more of a chemistry bonding than the X's and O's here when we leave on Saturday."
The program welcomes three players from the transfer portal in Del'Janae Williams, Jessica Timmons and Meg Newman but also welcomes three freshman in Essence Cody, Naomi Jones and Reychel Douglas meaning many new faces to integrate into this year's team.
Alabama still faces moderate expectations this season under Curry after returning seniors Sarah Ashlee Barker, Loyal McQueen and JeAnna Cunningham.
Curry led the Tide to NCAA Tournament appearances in two of the last three seasons, positive steps forward after a 20+ year gap in appearances.
"I just think it's a wonderful opportunity for us to be able to have our system in place and when official practice starts we're able to accomplish a lot more a lot quicker early in the year and I think that's going to benefit us," said Curry.
