Crimson Tide results

Volleyball: Tennessee def. Alabama 25-18, 25-18, 25-18

Did you notice?

Junior Doris Carter finished with 14 kills and junior Meghan Neelon was one dig short of her second consecutive double-double, with 18 assists and nine digs, but Alabama volleyball (12-11, 4-8 SEC) was still swept by visiting Tennessee (11-12, 5-8 SEC). “It comes back to mental preparation and understanding that for these matches in SEC you have to really be confident in your training and trust your training,” Crimson Tide coach Lindsey Devine said in a statement. “When you have that moment of self-doubt when an opponent pushes back at you, like at the beginning of a match, and you abandon your training and the scouting report then all the sudden your opponent has you.”

• Did you see what Collin Sexton finished with on Sunday?

• How about Amari Cooper?

• Speaking of Cooper, for a second straight year a trade for a former Crimson Tide player has made all the difference for an NFL team. Minkah Fitzpatrick has five interceptions in seven games, and two touchdowns with the Steelers.

• Derrick Henry’s 171 rushing yards were his second most in an NFL game.

On this date in Crimson Tide history:

November 11, 1892: Alabama played its first football game. E.B. Beaumont's team defeated a squad comprised of Birmingham High School students 56-0.

Crimson Tide quote of the day:

"We did a good job of staying together, being one and staying cool and calm. We did enough." – Jalen Hurts after his 26-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in the final seconds of the 31-24 victory at Mississippi State on this date in 2017.

We’ll leave you with this …

She didn’t go to Alabama, but married a former Crimson Tide athlete (so we can sort of claim her). Laura Rutledge has reportedly signed a five-year contract extension with ESPN. As part of her new deal, she will be a permanent contributor to the morning show Get Up.
