Did you notice?

• The volleyball team posted its second-straight sweep at the Blazer Invitational, defeating Georgia State in straight sets at Bartow Arena.Graduate Eva Borrowdale posted a season-best 11 kills and a .385 hitting percentage along with 10 digs for her first double-double with the Crimson Tide (7-1). Freshman Alyiah Wells tied her season high with six blocks with senior Ginger Perinar had five.

• Alabama won 27 of 32 events as the men and women swim teams swept Delta State in Coley Stickels’ debut as the Crimson Tide head coach. Alabama’s women beat Delta State 204-91, while the Tide men won 186-109. “This meet was all about getting a starting point and now we just have to go out and get better from here,” Stickles said in a release. “Obviously, it’s very early in the season and we have a lot of work ahead of us, and while the energy on the deck was good and we got up and competed even after some hard weeks of practice, we will need to swim at a much higher level to be competitive in the SEC. We made some technical mistakes that have to be cleaned up. This was a learning experience for the team as a whole and a wakeup call for some to realize we aren’t where we need to be.”

• Freshmen Avi Shugar won the first match of his collegiate career as Alabama players went 4-0 in singles play during the opening day of the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Junior Riccardo Roberto and senior Alexey Nesterov advanced to the doubles final in the Crimson Draw.

• Derrick Henry’s 99-yard touchdown named one of the 100 best plays in league history:

• Eddie George on Henry:

• Jarren Reed sold his No. 90 jersey number to defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, and will wear No. 91 for the Seahawks when his six-game suspension ends. “It wasn’t cheap, I’ll tell you that,”Clowney told 710 ESPN Seattle.

• As part of the NFL’s roster breakdown on Kickoff Weekend,Alabama, with one NFL player for every 74,683 residents, leads the list of NFL players per capita. The District of Columbia (one in 75,215) and Louisiana (one in 79,533) round out the top three. The national average is one NFL player per 184,436 U.S. residents.

• In addition to announcing its list of the top teams in college football history, ESPN named its top-10 SEC teams of all-time:

• Earlier this week The State did a strong look back at the 2010 win for South Carolina, which included a number of interesting quotes like this one from wide receiver Tori Gurley: “I ain’t saying names, but there was a guy who played quarterback and he was feeling himself so much that he had on a Spartan’s helmet like from ‘300,’ a robe and some Jesus flip-flops. And he was in Five Points. I’m quite sure you can figure out who that was. We were celebrating like we won the Super Bowl.”

• Kevin Chappell, who is playing in his first PGA event after having major back surgery last year, stole the headlines by shooting a 59 during the second round of A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. However, Bobby Shelton shot -5 and was in a three-way tie for first at -13 with Joaquin Niemann and Scottie Scheffler.

From the Frenso Bee, Derek Carr says: ‘Stabler’s the GOAT, man'
